Abnormal Fingernails

Guys, I am upgrading my blog and i am giving you some useful info about the nail growth.   

I am just wondering how healthy nails these will be. 

             Longest Fingernails - Female

“Lee Redmond (USA)” hasn’t cut her nails since 1979. The total length of her nails is 7 m 51.3 cm (24 ft 7.8 in).

The measurements of each fingernail is as follows:-

Right hand Fingernails

Thumb 76.4 cm (30.1 in)
Index finger 72.3 cm (28.5 in)
Middle finger 74.1 cm (29.2 in)
Ring finger 73.6 cm (29 in )
Little finger 71.6 cm (28.2 in)

Left hand Fingernails

Thumb 80 cm (31.5 in)
Index finger 76.4 cm (30.1 in)
Middle finger 76.7 cm (30.2 in)
Ring finger 76.2 cm (30 in)
Little finger 73.6 cm (29 in)

Longest Fingernails – Male

As of February 25, 1995, the total measurement of Shridhar Chillal's fingernails (Pune, Maharashtra, India) was 226 inches for the five nails on his left hand (thumb 52 inches, index finger 40 inches, middle finger 43 inches, ring finger 46 inches, and pinkie 45 inches). He has not cut his nails since 1952.

There is One similarity between Nails and Hair and that is,nails are made of the same protein as hair, called Keratin .

Amazingly the Nails cannot sweat. This is because the nail bed does not have the sweat glands.Only the skin around the nails gets sweaty.

Fingernails and toenails grow at the rate of 0.1 mm daily. For a finger nail to re grow completely it will take some 4 to 6 months.

Men’s nails grow faster than women’s nails. The finger nails for both men and women grow faster than toe nails.

The middle finger nail grows faster and the thumb nail is the slowest growing nail.

Seasons and weather also affect nail growth. Nails grow faster in warm climates and during daytime, than in cold climates and at night. Also Nails grow much faster during pregnancy.

Nails grow at different speeds on both hands. For right handed people nails on right hand grow faster than the nails on the left hand.

Elephants have 5 nails on each of their front legs and most often only 4 nails per back leg.

Some Years back there was very popular news in the Air that “The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days”

Experimentally this was proven to be wrong.
